Banff to Nelson in english !!!

Hi everybody !

We wanted to give you some news about our last days from Banff down to Creston then Nelson where we are actually ! The ride have been amazing even if there not so many things so see than in Banff national park. We crossed the Kootenay national park which was also beautiful and wild. We passed in Radium Springs where we slept one night in a provincial park….We did not pay but nobody came to check so…..We hope you wont be mad about us ! 🙂 Anyway, we met some people over there who were very nice and shared their fire with us ! We spent a very good evening all around the campfire.
The day after, we left this area, heading to Cranbrook via Fort Steele and we slept along the Kootenay river just after canal flats. We found a very nice spot to tent with nobody to disturb us ! I tried to fish but finally we ate some pasta……:-(((
We reached Cranbrook where we took time to go on the Internet (to read all the huge mails of Glen from Prince Georrge:-) ) and after buying some foods, we slept in another provincial park (Jimsmith lake) very nice place but after a very disturbing hill of 4km very steeeeeeeeeeple !!! The same kind of hill that Down town Prince George up to the Glen and Roxanne house ! 🙂 Hard to end the day after almost 100km and a very strong headwind !

The day after, we were in Yakh after visiting the US border to ask a few questions about our trip ! We slept over there before to leave heading to Creston ! What a nice area with all this fruits and vegetables all around ! We wanted to stop every minutes to buy food ! No Johann…Now it’s time to ride !!! Let’s go ! You’ll eat berries later ! 🙂
The coast along Kootenay Lake was awesome ! A small, curvy and hilly road but very scenic ! Thanks to Glen for this great advice ! So we missed the Kootenay Pass and all the trucks ! 🙂 It has been really hard to find a place where to spend the night because every rich people of BC must have a huge property going from the road down to the lake….:-) Finally we found a nice point of view without disturbing anybody ! We also changed time so the days are shorter except if we begin to ride early in the morning…and we hate that because our beds are great !
The ferry from Crawford Bay to Balfour was cool ! First it’s very cheap (nothing) and secondly it’s beautiful to board two bikes on a boat just beside big fancy RV, motorbikes and cars ! After 35 minutes, we were on the West coast, back on the saddle !

We biked for a few km and after 2h, we were in Nelson ! What a beautiful city !!! Life seems so nice here ! Farmer’s market, great food in coop, fresh food (fish, meat, vegetables and fruits) and not so expensive. We are in a small hostel which is very affordable, comfortable and close of baker street. We bought some tubes cause Johann was so stupid that he took the wrong one from Switzerland ! Lot of people talked with us and were very interested in our trip, specially on the bike shop !

Tomorrow we’ll leave this place, down to Castlegar to start the old Kettle Valley railway. We really enjoy to ride this trail ! We heard so many people talking about that so now we want to discover by ourselves !

So you’ll read more adventures in a few days, weeks or months !!!

Please, leave any comment so we can see that people read our english posts ! Thank you in advance and great pleasure on our french website !

  1. Tu te mets un peu à l’espagnol ?

  2. si vous voulez vous arrêter quelques temps à Okanagan falls, on connait une ferme sympa!!!

  3. Hi two Swissman and woman,
In the USA you can camp in local parks in small city’s where no campground is. There is water and there are restrooms. Most of the land is fenced!
It will be more difficult to find a place for your tent!
And do not wait too long for the coast trip. Rain is coming up!
And maybe: travel lighter, you will more enjoy your trip.
But most of all have fun!
    We are now renting
